Brief History of Craft Silicon Foundation.

THE IDEA

Donating to Charity, supporting and inspiring vulnerable members of the community has been part of life of Madam Priya Budhabhatti. Her passion was largely inspired by her experiences as a young girl brought up in a humble family struggling for education and survival. As a successful woman in Technology business, she has been at the forefront in mentoring and inspiring women and youth across the country and beyond.

Her dream of helping communities and giving opportunities to the less fortunate communities led to inception of Craft silicon Foundation in 2009.

Skill development was a more sustainable form of charity as compared to donating food and other human necessities.

THE BEGINNING

Craft Silicon Foundation was formed in 2009 with the goal of giving Free Computer Education to the less fortunate communities in the slums of Nairobi.

Why Computer Education?

Free Computer Education (Digital Literacy Program) is meant to bridge the wide divisions between those who have real access to Information and Communications Technology and those who don't.

Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) are increasingly becoming a foundation of our societies and economies, the Digital Divide means that the "information have-nots" are denied the option to participate in new ICT jobs, in e-government, in ICT improved healthcare, and in ICT enhanced education.

Our Vision

The vision of the foundation is to have empowered communities that are able to economically and socially sustain themselves through Digital Economy

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip youths and other members of the community with free Digital skills and facilitate access to internet for social economic development

ABOUT DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAM

The advancement of ICT infrastructure and application has created immense opportunities in regard to economic growth and development. This is a great opportunity for Kenya and the developing world to tap on the potential that comes along with the growth and development being experienced in the ICT industry. We as a country and as an organization do acknowledge the importance of ICT as an enabler for growth and development that could benefit both developed and developing countries. We also acknowledge the government for establishment of ICT Development Agenda for the country.

The rapid ICT development in the country has brought about the need to develop manpower resource that will utilize the growth and expansion in the ICT sector and especially the arrival of high-speed internet through fiber Optic cable. However, there is a great need of developing a well-trained and informed manpower.

Craft Silicon foundation has initiated Mobile ICT Resource centers that will act as both training and ICT service points for the community. The Mobile Computer Bus is a concept that envisages the idea of a digital Village, where ICT infrastructure and development are brought closer to the community as we get to open up all parts of the country and make them part of the digital village.

Craft Silicon foundation has taken the initiative of providing the relevant ICT infrastructure to members of the community with development and empowerment agenda in mind.

The mobile concept has been embraced in order to access the most remote areas of our country where ICT infrastructure and services are less developed and unaffordable to the community and also reach out to as many people as possible.
